Hosting your Foulplay Murder Mystery Game on Gather
Gather Town is a cool new way to play interactive games online! We love Gather Town for its fun, geeky gaming experience in bringing our Foulplay Games to life!
Gather Town is an interactive video platform that is basically online multiplayer game meets conferencing software, and is free for up to 10 players. The most up to date pricing can be found here.
Players create their own little 8-bit character avatar, then they can move around the map using WASD or the arrow keys, making it very intuitive for gamers! Video chat is based on proximity, so it feels very similar to a real life party where you can walk up to a group and then begin chatting. Once you purchase a Foulplay Game, you can use our pre-made templates by contacting us at foulpaycompany@gmail.com or create your own for a customized game experience!
Playing on Gather Town:
Gather Town is free to set up and to host on for up to 10 players, and has no time limit. Players will be transported to an 8-bit world where they can explore the map, find clues, scheme with other players, all with great proximity video interaction. As a note, Gather Town works best using Google Chrome.
Set Up Your Game on Gather Town:
Go to https://gather.town/
Click the “Launch Gather” button in the upper right corner.
From here, you have a few options:
You can use one of our templates after you’ve purchased a Foulplay Game. We have created a template for each of our games, so email us at foulplaycompany@gmail.com for your template!
You can choose to create a new space. Creating a space is free and does not require an account, but if you want to be able to save and create new maps, we recommend creating a free account!
If you haven’t used Gather Town: You can sign up for a new account and pick your avatar, then create a new map from a template or create your own.
If you have used Gather Town: You can visit old maps you’ve created or make a new map.
If you create a new space, Gather Town has several pre-made template maps for you to use or customize further.
If you wish to customize the map, once you have signed in and picked your name and avatar, go to the “Settings” button on the left (the gear button). Then click the “Customize Space” option, then click the large blue “Open MapMaker” button.
From there, you can add objects to the room and customize other elements, including the walls and the floors!
Once you have finished creating your map, you can send the link to the Gather map to your group and they will be able to join you for your game!
