Meet Mia, who recently hosted Murder on the High Note to celebrate her summer birthday–in the dead of winter! Mia lives in New Zealand, so the season looks a bit different down under this time of year. But of course Mia was able to break through the chill and host an unforgettable party!
Why did you decide to host a murder mystery party? Why Foulplay?
I wanted to do something fun for my birthday, but since it’s winter here, a beach day was out. A murder mystery sounded like the perfect cozy indoor activity,” Mia shared. “When I started researching, most games I found were too scripted and stiff. Then I saw a Foulplay TikTok and immediately loved the concept! The games were well-organized, run by women (yes!), and felt like they would be way more fun and flexible than the others.”
How did the game go overall?
Guests dive into character at our 1920s murder mystery party — complete with flapper glam, feather boas, and a dramatic arrest moment.
Mia hosted her first murder mystery party in June for a group of her friends and it was an absolute hit.
“Everyone loved the characters, the drama, and especially the costumes! We’re a bunch of teenage girls, so getting to dress up and be fancy was half the fun!”

Mia knew exactly what she was doing when it came to the drama: “I picked my most theatrical friend to be the victim, and their death scene was so over the top and hilarious! Definitely a highlight.” She also had a clever trick to make the game feel even more dynamic. “My space has stairs, so we used that as a stage anytime someone needed to make a big speech or present awards. Everyone started chanting ‘Speech! Speech!’ whenever anyone went ‘on stage.’ It was so fun!’”

“It was such a blast. The little secrets, the laughs, the outfits–it all came together! I’d absolutely recommend hosting a murder mystery game with Foulplay! The game made everything so easy and fun. Thank you for helping me pull off such a memorable birthday!”
