Foulplay Games Takes Over Emerald City Comic Con with 'Die 4 U' Murder Mystery Games

Emerald City Comic Con 2025 was a whirlwind of nostalgia, mystery, and murder for us as we brought our brand-new 90s-themed murder mystery game, Die 4 U, to the 4th floor gaming level Over four days, we hosted 12 pop-up murder mystery parties, taking over 500 attendees back to the 90s in a world of pop stars, grunge icons, and backstage betrayals.

Set against the backdrop of the 90s music industry, Die 4 U transported players into a fierce rivalry between pop and grunge as they tried to solve the shocking murder of a bandmate—killed with their own 'Group of the Year' award! Attendees embraced the theme, bringing their best 90s slang and attitude and the pop vs. grunge divide fueled intense (and hilarious) in-character debates, adding an extra layer of fun to each game.

To help guests step into the decade, we decked out our space with a 90s prop table, giving players an edge in our 'Best Costume' contest. Temporary tattoos, a photo booth, and customized slap bracelets ensured everyone left with a piece of the 90s. Two exclusive 21+ games—complete with a bar—brought even more energy, with players toasting their favorite bands while unraveling the mystery.

From first-time sleuths to longtime Foulplay fans, Die 4 U was a smash hit at ECCC. Seeing over 500 players dive into the mystery, bond over their love for the 90s, and battle it out in the ultimate pop vs. grunge showdown was an unforgettable experience. We loved seeing returning attendees who joined us in 2023 and 2024. We’re already plotting our next convention takeover—so stay tuned for what’s coming next!
